PM takes wings
Around four months ago, the new Boeing airplane for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived in India. But the prime minister didn’t get an opportunity to fly in it because of the elections. Now, Singh has used the plane to fly to Thailand for the 7th India-Asean summit. The ultra-modern aircraft has a bedroom and a conference room for the prime minister apart from special chambers for his aides. It is equipped with security gadgets of the likes used in Airforce One to protect the US president.

Strike in SAIL plants postponed.

SAIL, Tata Steel, Bhushan, JSW hike prices.

Bhushan Steel hiked the prices of its long and flat products by up to Rs 2,000 a tonne. Flat steel products are primarily used by the white goods and auto industries, while long products are used in the construction sector.

Lacklustre trade continues.

ICICI Bank, Tata Steel, Reliance Communications and Tata Power are the other gainers in the market today. However, IT stocks are in the red. Wipro has dropped 1.7% to Rs 682. TCS has slipped 1% at Rs 741. Other losers in the index are ONGC, Sun Pharma and HDFC Bank. The market breadth is positive. out of 2,717 stocks traded 68% have advanced while 29% have declined.

India announces $55 mn in assistance for Malawi.
